I'll admit that I am little late to this game. Like, way late. Couple years too late in face. But, there has been more information come to light and I'd like to talk a little bit about JHS Pedal and all the hype (good and bad) that surrounds them.
1. They Are Cloners
In the world of effects, detail get a little murky. Ask a person of average intelligence was any pedal does and you get colorful langue about Highs and Low ends. Maybe there is a Mid-hump, maybe it flattens out the Mids. But in reality all "dirt" circuits work similarly. Image that your guitar signal is a water hose. Your clean signal is the water flowing the the hose unobstructed. Then distortion would be similar to you putting your thumb overt the end of the water hose. This has a term, it's call "clipping". Every dirt pedal that I've come across does this in some way. Before the distortion pedal, guitar would push their amps to "breakup". This meant pushing their amps very hard to make a distorted sound. Early early pioneers took what guitarist were doing with their amps and boiled it down until they could replicate it on a small scale. In a way, amps were cloned to create the first pedals. Today we have a very popular pedals that are recreated in many different ways by many different people. Ibanez's Tube Screamer is a circuit that has been emulated by many manufacturer. I actually own a Tube Screamer clone made by EHX. Others have cloned and tweeked the circuit and sold it as being something completely different. This is what JHS is accused of. Is it true? Yes. But it's also true of Boss, EHX and others.
2. They Over Charge For Their Pedals
There is a lot of talk about "how much it cost to make a pedal". I can put together the parts to build a pedal for about $20. A more complicated pedal would cost more, of course, but to a varying degree that how much buying an enclosure, knobs, jacks, and internals. Some say that buying in bulk would decrease that price, so a manufacturer should be able to produce a product cheaper. So then, when JHS charges $200-$300 for a pedal, it raises some eyebrows. Let's look at it from a business standpoint. A product is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. If there are people out there willing to buy a hand built pedal for boutique prices, then that's just fair trade. plenty of people have opinions about how much things should cost, but in reality, people can charge whatever they want for their products. Some people however don't live in reality.
3. They Pass Off Their Copied Circuits As Their Own
So we talked about how many manufacturers make circuit that are basically the same as others. Electro Harmonix barely mentions the Klon in its description, and only stated that it "inspired" the design of their Soul Food Pedal. Boss doesn't even mention the TS-9 in their description of the SD-1 even though those pedals are so similar even some mod instructions are the same for these pedals. It's not like this is unprecedented. In many cases the pedals that JHS produces are based on other pedals, but they have mods or features that didn't exist on the originals. If you spent enough time to design, breadboard, and build these pedals, you'd probably think about these pedal as your own too. Even though the designs might not be 100% original the work that was put into building the pedals, business, reputation for quality products make what he offers have value. How much value? See point 2
4. Bad Business Practices
OK. This might be legitimate, however, it might be hearsay. There has been allegations that JHS stole a design from another builder and put it into another pedal of his. Also, there might have been a case of criticizing a builder causing a store to stop carrying the other builders pedal. This again might be true, however, I find it unlikely that someone dropped a line of pedals just because a competitor had something off-putting about them. So then, in the worse case, the guy behind JHS might be a little bit of a jerk. (or shrewd in business lingo) This is compounded by the fact that people generally believe Josh Scott of JHS pedals to be a christian. This is because he did an interview for a christian magazine one time. So, in the case that all of this is true, we have a christian guy building his take on popular pedals and charging a mint for them. If he is a christian, should he give them away? (I wouldn't mind taking a few)
5. Poor Quality
If what I've seen is to be believed, then this is true... kinda. The pedal that "prove" this claim look like what I'd build. Like early work of a pedal builder. This is explainable, because it was probably early work of a builder. I learned most of what I know about this "issue" by reading forum post and another blog post that was very detailed. You can read it here. Josh Scott has already made replies to post about poor workmanship offering to exchange any pedal with poor build quality for a new pedal. It looks like this problem has been recognized and corrected.
In Conclusion
I don't own any JHS pedals. I would probably be more interested in some of the mods or other services. Plus, I'm kinda cheap, so... you know. Here's the thing. If you look hard enough at any company, then you're probably going to see something you don't like. Small pedal builders are very personal products. Don't forget that these people just want to do something that they enjoy and make money at it. Somewhere along the way they have to make a business out of it. The best way to make any business to change their practices is to not buy their product. If enough people agree with you, then the business will change, or go out of business. If you don't like them, don't buy from them. Do they deserve the hate they get in the forums? I don't support hate, although maybe organize a boycott, or create an online petition, something more constructive. (for more ugly truths about JHS, check this out)
These are the best pedals I have ever played. I have had 3 ibanez tube screamers over the years (80's, 90's, 2010's) and they were all terrible and not cheap. The JHS-808 finally gets it right. The sweet tea is the best pedal combination I have ever used as well. The morning glory is another awesome pedal. I'm so tired of hearing people talk bad about JHS. They actually get the pedals right. I have spent a lot more money on crappy pedals from every other pedal maker over the last 30 years and FINALLY feel like I'm getting my money's worth from JHS. If you don't like the sound or quality of JHS pedals then DON'T BUY THEM. PS. Don't forget JHS pedals have the highest resale rate too.
ReplyDeleteThey have the highest resale rate? Meaning the most number of people buy JHS peddles, then use them, and then decide to sell them... your statement does more to confirm the author's point then it does to support yours.
DeleteAmen!
DeleteWhat pedal isn't resold. Not a lot of used JHS pedals on ebay. But it is comforting to know if you buy a brand new JHS pedal for $200 and you don't like it after 10 days or 10 years you can sell it for 170. A pink panther would go for well over it's original price.
DeleteI can definitely confirm the poor quality of JHS gear with even poorer quality service.
ReplyDeleteAround 2011-2012 I had ordered a new mod they advertised about on their website that would give a Way Huge Aqua Puss delay modulation similar to a EHX deluxe memory man. I jumped on it and paid around $150 and waited 6 or so weeks. When I got the pedal back, it didn't work the way they said it would. In fact, it didn't even sound like a delay pedal. I sent it back and they took another month and I received it exactly the same. I did it at least two more times and it was almost a year of the back-and-forth frustration. Then I received it again, still not working as described, with a broken knob. Finally, they gave me a refund, although they did nothing to compensate me for about $60 or more I had spent in shipping costs. Absolutely horrible service and workmanship. But wait, there's more.
I ordered a new Klon clone pedal from them (same as the ones that go for over $400 used now). I waited about two or so months for it. When I received it, it made a very loud pop when I engaged the pedal. Using my pedal was like stepping on a landmine. I sent it back asking if they could fix the problem. I got it back a month later and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I went back and forth and sent it back about another two times with the same result. "Nothing wrong with it," they said. Finally, out of frustration, I paid out of pocket and I sent the pedal to a repair shop in New York that I knew did good work. I got it back a couple of weeks later. They said they definitely saw a problem with it during the first five minutes they tested it. They repaired it easily and said it was due to a missing resistor-- there was an empty slot on the circuit board and they couldn't understand how JHS could have missed it; it was low-hanging fruit.
Moral of the story: JHS seems to have had some pretty good ideas for pedals, but poor execution, and they treat their customers poorly. At least they sure did it to me and I definitel gave them more than a fair chance
The truth is many of these Gourmet pedal makers are selling very, very small numbers. They are all much, much smaller company's then you think.
ReplyDeleteI have a Mogoo Demon Tube Screamer that I had the good luck to compare to an original ts808 ..the difference was 'Nano' LOL and I paid in total all expenses included $35.00 USD to own it.
I have a JHS The @ ...It is the best OD I have ever owned $219.00 USD
My pedal board has 47 pedals on it...10 Chinese clones...the others are all Gourmet jobbies. They are all totally equal to the job I bought them for.
Bottom line is it is all about sound. A Stradivarius violin is crap at the price. BUT!
In the end it is all about value not price.
The very best sound is always valuable.
sometimes it is cheap ...sometime not.
The OD-1 was first, so boss didn't clone shit.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ibanez cloned the OD-1.
DeleteI've never owned any JHS pedals, only read some reviews and watched video clips of their products, so I'm not a JHS acolyte in any respect. The prices they charge fit within the average cost of most USA-produced boutique makers. Even if he is a Christian I don't see how that makes him a hypocrite by today's standards. It's true that true Christian values stand in sharp contrast to the capitalistic accumulation of wealth, but there aren't any other self-identified Christian businessmen being criticized on this score, so why single him out? Do we know the religious-affiliation of Jamie Stillman of Earthquaker Devices? Why should it matter? Also, it's commonplace these days for pedalmakers to take long established circuits, tweak them and then produce pedals with higher-quality components than those found on cheaper, mass-produced models. Again, Mr. Scott seems to have been unfairly singled-out here for attack.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. It depends on how far you want to take it. Nobody's perfect. It's the old "Separate the art from the artist" conundrum. My #1 guitar is a 1995 Music Man Silhouette. For all I know, the guy who built it could have been a jerk. Hell, he could even be a murderer. But No way am I getting rid of that guitar, even if I found out those things were true.
DeleteJHS as lot of others is good seller and manipulator that is all beside fact that He make clones. It is not fer to compare JHS with the brands like Boss and especially with EHX. JHS basically change value of one or two parts and boom ☺ it's ''original design'' pls NOTE changing of values DO NOT require any knowledge, any person can do it and that is not designing of pedals. Truth is that only real deal originals are 1st pedals 1st OD, 1st DS 1st Flange etc . Brands like Boss or EHX had engineers who for real did some changes, truth OD is OD no matter how many knobs you add or switches more or less it is BS and playing around aka ''tweaking'' - any average Joe can do it as long as He /She can solder. Problem is that lot of players who had no job imagine they can be engineers without learning anything and then we get as product people like JHS owner ☺ who see opportunity to make $ fast, of course He is not the only one. Unfortunately with marketing, with few players which will say a couple good words (engrossment) you can sell anything ☺... They go so far in lying that no matter they all buy parts in Asia they spit on Asian made pedals which cost 4 times less min and they are made from the same material, same parts etc often schematic is identical..they call those pedals ''copies'' lol ☺ but truth is they are no more nor less copies then any of boutique pedal that cost 200+$. That reminds me on 80's when some western brands were attacking Japan made products..Bottom line IMHO JHS is manipulator and opportunist but that is not against the law far as i know, so if people permit to be victims of brands and they choose to believe in marketing BS and overpay stuff rather then to believe to their own ears and common seance then they are guilty themselves. I don't have JHS pedals and for sure will never buy one.
ReplyDeleteChanging values of 1 or 2 parts actually is and always has been the history of making guitar pedals and effects. All the way back to beginning with ToneBender and Fuzzface. Long before many of you were even alive. Even the original Tape Delays were just clones of the ideas of other tape delays with modifications.
DeleteHello Tom,
DeleteIt's Bernie from FretGuru, someone contacted me and said that you were looking for some replacement sandpaper in your Amazon review.
So I Googled the Amazon user name and (maybe) found you here. Is this you?
Sandpaper for your FretGuru beam is readily available, either directly through us at FretGuru, or on eBay.
On the package insert that came with your precision sanding beam I've included my direct email (fretguru@gmail.com) and cell phone number, which I don't want to leave here on a public forum.
Get ahold of me and I'll hook you up with some sandpaper.
Thanks!
Bernie / FretGuru
Tom Bruno not always but it was very often. Prejudice aren't OK, so that wasn't log before i was alive. It is not important what is my age.
DeleteTo clone something or base a product and mention it is one thing like Marshall based his amps on fender, fender based his amps on radio devices etc etc etc.
But do it and sell with hypes insisting that they ''designed'' something, siting on import pedals, lie how one method is better then another (when it comes to soldering and size of components) lie about ''hand made'' when also some Chines 20$ pedals is hand made to some degree etc that is manipulating with people.
I saw the other comments you made (i hope i did) so i give you answer here.
So doing business in such ways is IMMORAL. There is law which protect customers in Europe and i hope that soon We will apply it more often for such products like pedals.
We would but the problem is education of guitarists who are buying items. Mistake of our market is that We didn't shared enough inflammations but there are players who have learned things fast by searching the net and they have realized that JHS and some other brands are making fools out of them if you like they cheated on them.
Now We are working on new measures where products will have to put what is the origin place of their parts. For long time honest European brands write ''made in EU'' and in last few years they switched to ''assembled in EU'' of course there are lot of brands where entire production is in China or some other country and they put ''made in China for ....''.
Just found this website. What a bigoted rant. He's a Christian (and that's counted as a strike against him) and therefore he's expected to give his pedals away to tramps like yourself? Where does his faith call upon him to do that? And your conclusion is that you don't support hate, unless it's organized (boycott) or effective (constructive acts like a petition?). You want to know who this guy is, why not watch his YouTube channel. I do and he seems like a guitar geek who loves pedals.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed the book burning.
You mean cult member
DeletePersonally don't care about JHS religion nor anyone else, no matter is He christian, Muslim, Buddhist or what ever he is thief - same goes for his mate Wampler and all of those ''boutique'' builders that came to scene in last 10 years, all of them are making fools out of guitarists by copying old pedals and just adding extra switch etc. Now that is burning books and killing of music, fact that some thief are taking 200+$ for copy paste and lie in order to justify His crime have nothing with God aka religion.
DeleteThis is all sort of silly
ReplyDeleteNice! Im inspired.. Thank you.
DeleteSilly is fact that there is no law against BS Mister J and his friends are doing.
ReplyDeleteFor a blog titled "The Ugly Guitar Truth" i see little that looks or sounds like 'truth' in this post. And i did look. I tried to keep an open mind, but it was extremely challenging to get through all the vitriolic/ugly/hateful opinions.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYou don't own any JHS pedals... JHS states clearly on his YouTube vlogs that he "clones", yet improves, on the circuits of other pedals. As to cost point, his pink "Lucky Cat" delay, with tap, is a deal at $199. I have heard it A/B'd with many other similar pedals and his pedal is worth every penny. He suggested a Wampler delay, which I bought and its fantastic. Also, if you are going to post with some kind of authority or knowledge in written form (e.g. journalism), then confirm your facts and learn grammar. Due to misspellings, some it makes no sense. I could give examples or you can simply paste the language into Word and run a quick spell check. Anyway, bringing up someone's religion based on whether they ask to be reimbursed with a “premium price” for products related to their expertise (which no doubt feeds and clothes their family), is the worst analogy I have ever heard!!! Most JHS pedals are $199, which is pretty much the same as Wampler, Walrus and Earthquaker etc. I am Christian, therefore I should work at my current job for 20 years (and I have), and no one should pay me a dime for it?? My work should not imitate the many great employees before me and I should not improve upon the foundation they created?? Hmmm --just some questions for thought. At least you were trying to be creative, which is more than some people out there. I suggest doing a little spell-checking, fact-checking and research next time. You cannot read a bunch of discussion boards about a company, not own their product and then run your mouth about it. In fact, it sounds like you are justifying why you are into cheap pedals (many of which are awesome!). JHS has a vlog about it. Go watch it. One reply summed up your blog post nicely, "This is all sort of silly". Thank you unknown comment person!
ReplyDeleteJust a bunch of haters go start a band u fucking internet sluts they need to charge that...
ReplyDeleteWhat a stupid rant. If you don’t like the pedals, don’t buy them. Curious that the author has no first-hand experience using the pedals he’s trashing.
ReplyDelete1st JHS is not improving a thing, He literally change a few values blindly and some value changes don't have impact at all.
ReplyDelete2nd JHS and Wampler work together, both of them as ripping of others people work. Both of the spi on import pedals that better then their crap.
3rd yes you can make $, all of us try to earn $ for our family. Just a way in which We make our money can be morally acceptable or not. If in your world is OK that somebody rip off other people schematics then ''improve'' that same work less then 1% and sell it for min. 2 times more , if that means = fer job, super in my world it aint.
CONCLUSION : silly my dear is how easily people are manipulated. Uber silly is fact that his fans behave like he is a part of their family. If you like to buy ''His'' pedals that is great, it is free world so DO IT! But pls allow people go give a different opinion and don't behave like spoiled fan boy.
you create nothing in life. .I bet money on that LuginonLuginon. you're as pathetic as the loser author
DeleteSo much ignorance in one rant. You don't know any of this as fact, you are just envious (and probably broke).
DeleteMister ''Unknown'' i will gladly accept bets, and money can go to charity for some kids to buy stuff but not overpriced junk.
DeleteIt depends what is for you ''create in life''? IMHO i did far more then your pedal Guru plus i'm the real engineer not some ''wanna be'' aka 0 talented guitarist who couldn't make it as musician and then started to solder and wow at once became the pedal inventor.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteLook at the ToneBender and the Fuzz Face. All that was changed was 1 part. Infact, it just so happened that for a specific set of production they were identical circuit. That was LONG before anything you think is so "originally designed". This is how its done, hate to break it to you but every sound effect is a clone circuit, there are only so many ways to combine parts to make the effects.
DeleteI gave you the answer under my 1st post. ''That was LONG before anything you think is so "originally designed"'' ☺ i'll take that as compliment.
DeleteThose who did it never hyped stuff as JHS is doing it, not even close. Plus i can't find any old advertisement with crap ''we originally designed'' .
It is not done by blind combinations even today there are people who 1st sit and calculate things and before production of course you will test it on breadboard and it is easy to week things. But again i will rather sit and calculate then to blindly drop other values and keep when i ''like it''.
Moreover for sure i won't write nor say ''i designed it'' because that would be lie. That is my approach and approach of evry honest engineer.
For every pedal that i ever made since 90's since they were based on something i always say that. Also schematics have to be shared, who wish to make it cool or to repair it. That is another problem with some of those modern age wanna be designers. There are always exceptions but people like JHS and some other are IMHO disgrace for once normal pedal community.
Some of remember well when those ''designers'' were asking question on forums, and even they were assholes, i told they will do what they are doing today.
Instead that pedals became more accessible to players, that prices goes down, that myths are broken opposite have happened. And then have people who defending them.
To be honest some of them don't deserve better then such morons rip them off.
Dear person under name ''me'', what i wrote is fact and i never told that JHS or Wampler are the only persons, there are others who are doing the same things but this 2 are the loudest and full of lies especially JHS.
ReplyDeleteEnvious? Are you normal, who could ever be envious on manipulators and liars / thief? Ask any real engineer or any person who have electronic repair shop they will tell you the same. That is why they play on those breadboards like kids, when they hear something they like they keep it. You can do it as well as any other guitarist or person on this planet. it takes little time to learn the symbols then to download some schematic put parts on breadboard swap capacitor value with another (try few values ) and keep it if you like. To add switches or knobs is game. Transfer it with program for PCB printing, order few - usually one cost 2$ US when you order 10 pcs. Solder your elements (for usual pedal you won't spent more then 20$ including box) and sell it for 200$ US. That is what your JHS is doing only since He work with larger amounts to make 1 pedal cost Him for sure under 5$US.
Those are facts, you may like them or not but 10 000's of people who have any idea about electronic knows it already.
Do your own research, no need to trust me or any other person. At lest that is easy in 21 century.
Regrading who is Broke and who isn't that is an extremely shallow way of thinking. So you would take $ no matter that such way is immoral?!? Other people aren't like that.
Ask yourself why it is hard to find real engineers in that ''boutique pedal'' BS business. They didn't spent 100 000+$US and years on their education in order to ruin their careers with such immoral things.
There is no hate in this comment nor there is any in the OP, only facts. Once more - majority of ''boutique'' pedal scene that was made in last 10 years are taking schematics, everybody knows it. It isn't immoral if you make pedal or few for your friends, that is why DIY exists and that is why those schematics were uploaded in the start, but to make 100's of pedals to sell them expensive and claim how they have invented something or how they make ''hand built pedals while others are mass produced'' is such BS.
So nobody stood against DIY, it is great that people can order KIT's or make some pedals alone that is great. On the other hand to rip of people and make $ on back of musicians is something that is not OK.
As I told before all people needs to make $ , but the way how you make it creates huge difference.
Lol, its not immoral. Manipulating the electrical properties of the signal can only be done a few ways. Where do you think the maker of whatever brand you think doesn't make clones got their circuits from? They are all clones all the original designers got bought out or bankrupt back in the 60's.
DeleteThe only way its "immoral" is if you do something like copying digital software on these devices to make a clone (which is covered by copyright). Thats why Berhinger digital pedals sound different than Boss, because the actual software is copyrighted.
I wrote in 1st comment ''Truth is that only real deal originals are 1st OD, 1st DS 1st Flange etc ''.
DeleteLot of things are immoral in that business and i named just a few. Each person choose how He/She will make his living aka how to earn $.
Fact that some things aren't well regulated by the laws doesn't mean that they are moral and OK. In 80's and last time in early 90's was last attempt to change the law and put some order in that the mess of copy paste when it comes to electronic devices. Unfortunate it failed.
LOL and you think there is no copy paste of software with small changes? I respect and support Berhinger and Boss, and i wish the to grow more and more.
That is special field of manipulations. Those 2 brands especially Beringer is helping players with normal prices, not just with pedals but their amps are often better then some overpriced junk which cost 3000$.
Tc Electronic that is now part of B far as i know with those 30-40$ have helped musicians in my humble opinion, great pedals, state of the art technology and i wish them all the best.
Or China Mosky is my by far my fav due to they beat those assholes and i wish the all the best from hat, joyo, Nux etc to all of them.It doesn't meter that some come for the same factory as long as the prices are normal for mass made items they will have my support.
Same goes for guitars but that is another topic.
Pardon me if there some spelling mistakes i didn't check it out before publishing.
DeleteYou really should go check his youtube channel. Dammit, the man is promoting cheap stuff from Behringer, Joyo and so on, you barelly see any of his pedals on his own show... He admits that almost every single new pedal made (not only his) is a clon with minor tweaks. Do you really think it is necesary to re-design the wheel??? You´re mocking him for the prices he asks for his products? Why does a PRS guitar made in Indonesia cost the half or less, than a U.S. made PRS guitar? You don´t get the point, do you?
Deleteinterested
ReplyDeleteComparing things that are mass produced by communist labor, in countries where freedom is a joke, with handmade stuff in the USA isn't apples to apples. From what I gather, you don't think the people assembling your purchases should be paid properly or have any rights in some cases. I bet you shop at Walmart too. Just send your money straight to China.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing the amount of hate for China that comes from people who never went to China.
ReplyDeleteit is sad truth that workers in a factories which make pedals have better protection aka occupational safety is on higher level then in majority of ''boutique'' US factories.
Anyone can search for the official data not blah blah on YT and forums but data from ISO official sites.
Moreover when JHS get parts from China, their PCB is from China, parts if not entire machine He use is from china to whom He gave $ ?!?
are you seriously defending slave labor and insane communist government???
DeleteWe are all slaves in case you haven't noticed it. Dude China is more capitalistic then then the US, they have one party and the US have 2 with same agenda so wake up.
DeleteIt is very obvious that you have never run a business in your life. Needing to make a profit is not "capitalist greed." Profits are what continue the life cycle every single business (large to small) in the history of modern civilization. There is this immature notion these days that 1. everything should be free AND 2. person X is making money, therefore I am a victim because I am not making the same money. If your college roommate ends up a millionaire, its not because he made you poor. Maybe he got lucky, but in 95% of the cases, the people that succeed do so because they sacrifice their time and energy and effort into their success. I don't agree with that type of life, but I also dont think those people owe me anything or that my life is worse because of them. JHS needs to make a profit, in order to continue paying employees, continue developing products, continue expanding quality of business, etc. It's not that complicated.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't get how being a christian has ANYTHING to do with anything... I GUARANTEE if you swapped out the word christian with the word "muslim" or "jewish" etc, you'd realize how ignorant you sound. As a rule of thumb, if you make a statement about a person/group of people based on race or religion and if you swap the identity group with a "historically marginalized" (the favorite buzzfeed fallacy term) identity and the statement sounds racist or ignorant or wrong, youre probably wrong to begin with.
Believe me, I am very far from religious, but the fact that his Christianity had ANYTHING to do with this critique blows my mind. Honestly, this whole post is tainted with extreme ignorance of how business works and your own religious prejudice that you probably don't even realize that you have because for some reason, in these crazy times, as long as youre racist or hateful against a certain group of people, it doesn't count.
Anyways, excuse my rant, but I suggest talking to someone who operates a small-medium sized business and asking them why they dont just hand out their products for free? OR how about next week when you go to your job, why don't you tell your boss that because you have decided what is morally right, than working for money just doesn't sit right with you, so instead you will work for free. That is essentially the argument you are making without even knowing it.
I thought I was going to find some valid critiques here, but all I found was naive, simple-minded ignorance.
Prejudice are not OK, not just that they are ugly but they leed people into a wrong directions. Was executive in business that is far larger then some J.S or similar companies are.
ReplyDeleteYes Greediness means when when you make a large profit on back of the workers who work far more then their boss.
Greedy is when you are rising off intellectual property of others and finding holes in the law in order just to make more.
Greedy is when you attack other nations and countries on pure racist level in order to sell your products which are BTW made from the parts made in the country which that greedy person is attacking. Better word for that is MANIPULATION and it has nothing to do with real hard work and energy, it is more an easy and work and tricks.
Did I ever mentioned FREE products? Have you ever asked yourself are those which work is stolen do they deserve any money? maybe workers who are treated worse then they are in that China about which you are talking about. Go and see alone or at least check out some real data about occupational safety there and in J.S were people work in some basement! Surrounded with wooden walls, light is crappy, ventilation and light are is below any standard, pls check alone some of pictures and videos few years old were they show of their ''business''.
I wonder how such people even get permission to run their ''business''.
that is why our economy is crumbling beside other issues, you only care about what is going on in China and think they are on level from 1950's while in our own countries situation is far worse.
Have you forgot the besics? Why FORd and others had better production, because they cared about workers compered to the standards back in those days in was improvement. Nowadays We still kept the same level while the world moved on. And pls do not try to sell to me product make from imported parts which is in the best case only assembled in the US as ''made in US'' because it is not.
I have nothing against Asia just I dislike manipulation's. What you will find depends from your own attitudes as well, so don't blame others. I can share links even some pictures but as you say it cost ''time and energy'' .
I worked out my way and secured my life with hard work and by helping others, i could put a lot more in my pockets but i have chosen to behave fer. I can't take money in the grave nor money can buy all, it can do a lot of things but when it comes to helps, love and real friendship it won't help you much.
People who have cancer or some other similar life t. problem would give all they have, some gave millions but money have it's limits.
To be SUCCESSFUL means to be happy, healthy, to have free time aka to use it as you like, to have normal and healthy family and real friends.
I don't know much about JHS, I own one of their pedals (the Crayon) and it's great. This "ugly truth" about JHS tells me much more about you than it does about them. Such as you need to learn a thing or two about how the world works and stop being so bigoted about people with different beliefs to your own (and that's me speaking as an atheist). Also maybe get someone to proof-read the nonsense you write before posting it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you aren't the real Doctor since that would be sad. there is no nonsense in what OP stated, it is His right to write an opinion and for me who is also an atheist that is OK. If We wish to have a better wold then one of the basic steps is to permit others to share their opinions, there is nothing wrong in it and i haven't found anything of what you have mentioned. Maybe it is up to personal perceptions or maybe you are just another JHS fan who avid to say clear ''yeah i'm JHS fan and will support their crappy pedals no matter what''. That is just my guessing not a prejudice, I may be wrong, anyhow OP post is OK 100%.
DeleteTo me, the perspective of this article is that of someone who started playing guitar a few months ago and is unwilling to buy "boutique" effects pedals. Pedals are not cheap, especially those with elevated quality and lots of options. JHS is charging market value for their pedals. If you buy one of their pedals and love it, then it was worth that cost. My Fuzz War by Death By Audio cost me $180: it only has two knobs and an on/off switch, but it is worth every penny I paid for it.
ReplyDeleteAll pedals "descended from common ancestors" based on their type. Unless they make something way out of the box (ZVex's Fuzz Factory, most of Old Blood Noise Endeavors' pedals...the list is endless), every manufacturer clones pedals. That is the reality of the pedal manufacturing business.
I have much more I want to say, but my time is running out. Cheers, Mr Ugly Guitar Bloggerman, and may you come to understand the boutique pedal business (and maybe business in general).
I totally understand JHS, He is just milking morons and based on some answers here there are large number of those naive ones which are hooked on boot-geek pedals ☺. It is amazing that all those haters tell to OP to learn something about pedal business but actually they are the ones who have no idea about it. LMAO i love this hypnotic comments how JHS have HQ and He is not mass producing pedals. We can't blame JHS, what He is doing ain't nice at all but on the other hand those naive people would trow their $ anyhow.
